How We Support New Grads:

Transition to Practice Programs

The VIZIENT American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Nurse Residency Program is an evidence-based transition to practice program designed for the recent graduate of an RN program or an RN with less than one year of experience. We know the transition from a nursing student to professional nurse is challenging and the Nurse Residency program is designed to facilitate the transition from the classroom to the clinical environment. Our 12-month program is designed to support our newest nurses through a team of nursing leaders, preceptors, educators, and a dedicated Nurse Residency Coordinator. The program provides support and resources to facilitate educational and professional growth.

The Critical Care Internship (CCI) is an evidence-based transition to practice program for all nurses new to critical care. The CCI is a blended learning program, using the Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO), American Academy of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) computer based comprehensive and interactive critical care course along with the integration of a live classroom component and precepted bedside preparation. The classroom content coordinates with the online course providing presentations, hands on with equipment, skills demonstration, and simulation experiences to give the new ICU nurse a successful start to their critical care practice.

The Emergency Department (ED) Internship is a transition to practice program for all nurses new to the ED. The ED internship provides continuous learning throughout the new nurses’ orientation process. The content covers material specific to Emergency Department Nursing with didactic and hands-on experiences. The program provides 9.75 contact hours over the course of the internship.

The Operating Room (OR) Internship The Periop 101: A Core Curriculum program is a six month education program for novice and experienced RNs entering the perioperative specialty. The program was developed to prepare nurses with consistent, current information using a blended learning model incorporating online didactic content developed by Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), skills-based laboratory learning, and clinical preceptorship. This program engages a variety of methods and modalities to keep the learner engaged while learning new material. Periop 101 reinforces critical thinking, builds staff confidence, and optimizes efficiencies to better prepare them for the perioperative environment.

Meaningful Recognition:

Programs to Support Nurses and Team Members

Petals - Professional Extraordinaire That Always Lends Support
The PETALS Award is a program dedicated to thank those who partner with nurses in caring for our patients and families. The PETAL employee recognition program identifies employees who serve as models to the community for professional achievement, performance, dedication, and diligence in carrying out their duties and in advancing the goals and mission of the Nursing Division. The PETAL award is administered monthly to a Nursing Support partner who exemplifies extraordinary service in the performance of their job. The PETAL award was established for patient care technicians to align with the DAISY award for nursing staff. We want our programs to work hand-in-hand, as we know the overall success of our hospital and award-winning care of our patients, rests in the hands of each of our employees. Every DAISY has petals extending from its core that make it a perfect flower. DAISY - Diseases Attacking the Immune System
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses (LPN, RN, and NP) provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say, “thank you”, to nurses in a very public way. We routinely award our compassionate nurses and nurse leaders across the organization. We love celebrating our extraordinary nurses for the amazing compassionate care they provide daily to our community. To learn more about this program https://www.daisyfoundation.org/
